Gluten Free.. CHICKEN Pot PIE!!!!!

This is the gluten Free Casein Free Chicken pot pie we made..
 move over marie calendar!!!!!!!
wanna see the mini?
yeah
we made a mini
We let Papa take this sweet thing to work...
He was sooo happy
it was simply FANTASTIC!
and best of all
good for us
no upset tummies
no headaches
no allergic reactions of ANY kind!
and yet..
pure comfort food!
even Baby Loved it!

those Little Jalepenos...

Snuck over from our other Blog....
"The Cornforth Adventures..."

It all started with some banter on Facebook..
about a little Jalepeno...
and some recipe the ROCKED someone's world
(thank you Kelly D forever)
see I love Jalepeno poppers with cream cheese
but can't eat them now because I am gluten free (waY bummer!)
RIGHT?
then ...this discussion... on Facebook..
all about
a recipe that was found,
if I remember correctly... on Pioneer Woman..?
but then..who knows for sure..
it WAS facebook banter after all
it got all cut up like this
 Yes Length wise...
please note..
i washed my little Jalepeno first...
and dried it too...
yes, my Little Jalepeno got a Little bath
Then I scooped out the inners..
IF you prefer it ...
on the "spicy side"..
 leave some whites in it..
the whites give it more... KICK
Be sure to have some BACON in the house..
It works well to cut your strip in thirds..
I did NOT believe this.. and so .. in this tutorial...
I do not SHOW it...
but the bottoms of my
LITTLE Jalepenos get a bit soggy..
it is better to just COVER your Jalepeno like a blanket and secure it with a tooth pick...
rather than wrap it like a baby in a blanket ...
which is what you see here.. though.. this will work IN a pinch..
and still . will make you so happy
the brand of bacon does NOT matter, just so long as YOU like it
 Cream Cheese..
I think this would also be amazing blended with Chavre..
you can add herbs.. like..
cilantro.. or
spices.. but well...
sometimes simple is best..
WOW
 add your cream cheese
It really doesn't have to be all perfect. just smear it all in there.. be generous
Do the bacon to it. either wrap it.. or cover it with a 1/3 of a slice and spear it in place....
set it ON a rack on a cookie sheet or some dish..
you want your Little Jalepenos to be OFF the dish..
because the grease from the bacon needs to drip
and you do not want it just..
well...
sittin in it
 stick it under the broiler
I used my fancy new toaster oven...
since I wasn't making a huge amount...
can you see how wrapping kept the bottom a bit soggy...
my eagerness to have MORE bacon.. really jeapordized the Little Jalepeno..
but fret not..
I have never made the mistake again..
I have a standing supply of toothpicks IN THE HOUSE now..
JUST in case :)
 Check it out!!
There they are ...
Simple
&
Amazing.
Thank you to Kelly
&
to all the Facebook folk to partook in that LIVELY Jalepeno discussion
&
and to the Pioneer Woman..if you were indeed the launcher of this recipe
my tastebuds are all appreciative..
hope you enjoyed this tutorial :)
I can't WAIT to see my brother's face when he eats one :)

learning curve

hoping to plunge back into my blog...
with my daughter as a guest blogger..
she's becoming rather the baker..
often times like that "Sandra" Chick who takes mixes and fixes them up better than before..
we NEED to do that
with all of us with Gluten issues
and a variety of food sensitivities and allergies..
so
that said..
hoping to be popping BACK into this blog
and adding new recipes
with vigor..
but with all things
oodles of grace sprinkled :)
as we are on a SERIOUS learning curve! :)

Spicey Red Cabbage Slaw!

Ok, it doesn't NEED to be spicey... but.. mine was.. I like spicey.. I like warmth in my food, especially when it's already a cold salad...  This is a great salad if you like to eat middle eastern, or Eastern Mediteranean foods.. I first stumbled across it when at my FAVORITE Vegetarean hotspot in Woodstock IL, EXPRESSLY LESLIE's... now mind you... THIS is NOT her recipe... she's NOT about to give me any of her trade secrets... her's is much much better.. but ... I simply can not always GET out there, and I can't afford to always Buy my salads.. so I shall try and try and try.. and so far... THIS is my closest attempt :)

1/2 head finely chopped red cabbage (I cut out the white core)
1- 1 1/2 small red onion finely chopped
mayo ( tricky... I don't have a perfet meaurement for you.. guessing about 1/4-1/2 cup...)
Lemon juice (again, adding JUST a smidgen at a time... so perhaps do as I did.. < 2 T to flavor)
Olive Oil
Tahini 2 t
Parsley
Cilantro
Sea Salt
Cumin
Hot Hungarian Paprika
HERE are my Exact ingredients for you :)  I think pictures are so much fun don't you?  They can really GRAB our attention, and help us in a store when we are shopping :)

now perhaps I did not need to use so much of the HOT Paprika, perhaps it would have been fine with a little less.... it was still wonderful...  But this is my favorite brand, I will not use another, and I HAVE tried so many others...   Perhaps there is some amazing brand that I haven't YET tried, but so far, THIS is it for me :)
HERE is my Cumin.. I am not exactly as SOLD on this brand as I am on my Paprika.. so if you have some fabulous suggestion, pour it in the comment section!  I like it fine, but, I don't feel emotional about it at all.. It doesn't clump bad, and tastes nice ...
Here is my mayo.. it is lower in sugar, and frankly, THIS is the one made with CANOLA and NOT SOY... I have a really hard time with finding ANY mayo that is NOT SOY SOY SOY... just look at the Lables my friends... YOU will be suprised... Even at Trader Joes, my friendly Favorite Grocer, I can NOT find a single mayo that fits our families NEED to be as SOY free as possible...
so this is the MAYO for me :)  also, IF I remember correctly, Spectrum is GMO free food..
NOT that everything on my list is..
I have NO idea if ZIYAD is..
But it sure is one of the TASTiest  Tahini's I have YET had!
Have you had THIS yet?  YUM!

Here is my Sea Salt! :)  I like this particular one From Costco, because it has a grinder attatched... lame reason I KNOW!  but.. it grinds nice, and travels easy and is affordable... I do use other salts, but not today!

I had had great plans with these lemons I had purchase... but... alas they were MOLDY when I got them out. So glad I had my handy dandy Volcano Organic Lemon Juice!!!!!! :) always ready ALL the time, for those LEMON emergencies! :)  Also a great Costco purchase :)

A lovely head of Cabbage, I only used 1/2  but ... perhaps I will make this recipe again tomorrow, the not as spicy version.... or maybe some other exotic food.... :)  hmmmmm hungry girl here!

red onions... I am NOT allowed to eat the other kind... which is fine with me, because these actually SIT with me better.. I DO NOT know why, but they DO :)

Cilantro... Lovely Cilantro... Smells of wonderful things, and PULLS out toxins & metals from your system! Who knew such a delicate little green herb could be such a mighty force to be dealt with in our bodies!

Parsley... once thought to be a boring herb, it really is exciting.. in bulk!  I use this like it is going OUT of style!  I only like to use flat leaf parsley and I buy 4-6 bunches at a time at my local grocer, I can NOT get organic so I do the veggie wash.. But in the summer you should see all my flower pots...
 Parsley parsley everywhere!!!!!!!!!!

here is the Princess, my darling Soux Chef (aka assistant) helping me by chopping in the herbs in the kitchen..

adding the herbs to the finely chopped cabbage & onions :)  pretty pretty!!!!

Tadah!  Isn't it pretty... That red thing is my spatula :)
Isn't it pretty?

So.. HOW did I do that?
Well..
chopping onions teeeeney tiny, and cabbage as small as I could with my fancy chef knife... Perhaps some of you are super cool with something like... a machine that does that... I AM not that cool...
so...
then THE PRINCESS chops the herbs in the bowl chopper thingy
and I mix the red cabbage & red onion
with the mayo & drizzle of olive oil & tahini & lemon juice
and stir and stir and stir...
adding a smidge more of this or that...
till it looks just right...
(so annnoying to you..right... which means YOU have to come back and read again the PERFECT recipe)
(you know when I get it PERFECT with EXACT measurements)
you do think that
that
COULD happen
right?
anyways..
stir stir stir..
adding cumin
sea salt
and paprika
WATCH the paprika
IT is what makes things hot..
you might be tempted to use NORMAL paprika
but ...
that is NOT adventurous AT all...
that is for BORING people
and really..it won't taste right...
so try it,... just add a little
and stir stir stir...
and have a taste...
then if it needs more add a LITTLE
and
stir stir stir....
lastly add your herbs
and stir stir stir...
taste...
how does it taste?
need more lemon?
or more cumin?
what do YOU think?
remember
those three spices are ALL that is needed
because LEMON
OLIVE OIL
and the TAHINE
really blow the normal OFF the roof of any mayo!!!!
most people I know who HATE mayo
LOVE this recipe
so Bon Appetite!!!

food depression...

is there such a thing?
may I have just COINED a new phenomenon?

yet there it is.
plain as day...

I am missing my foods...
and recently thrown into this NEW culinary world,
still struggling with energy levels,
and brain fog...

I want to confess to you dear reader..
even if there is NO one reading ...
that I am feeling blue..
I don't WANT to learn something new today...
perhaps tomorrow..
today...
I am weary..
today I wish I could order take out!

Today muddling through traffic to find myself at a whole foods
with three kids
did NOT sound like a good idea
so ...
we didn't do it..

Today the kids are eating
VERY bad for them Ravioli..
because
the Sexy Man I am married to
is far far away on a buisness trip...
and it's easy...

and as for me....
Taco Salad...
again...

it's NOT exciting...
at all....
it IS digestable...

It is
Newmans medium Salsa
Ground Beef (organic, browned & seasoned w/taco seasoning)
Iceberg lettuce (yes I KNOW it's not worthless, but have you SEEN how nasty lettuce is right now?)
Romaine lettuce (see it's balanced here I needed the other for the CRUNH ! )
RED tomato
green onions (oooooooodles chopped fine)
cilantro chopped fine
black olives (2-3 chopped fine)
Toss salad with everything in it...
boring but tasty... !

I used to add beans & corn & cheese & tortillas...
Now I added Iceberg for at least SOME crunch...
I thought of it... because ALL i wanted was a Taco Bell Taco...
crazy?
well... yea... I know.. but I thought about it..
and I can have everything BUT the cheese and the tortilla and the sour cream...
so I made it and put it in a bowl...
it's not bad...
but it's not...
Delicious....

suggestions welcomed..
prayers desired :)
I know...
I know...
THIS too shall pass..
and the twenty pounds I've lost in the past 2 weeks isn't chump change right?

gluten...

i really love gluten...
I love French bread..
I adore a good hearty German Rye...
I love English water crackers...
I love love love gluten...

but wonder...
if this love is mutal...
I am beginning to think
gluten doesn't love me...

perhaps this no bread diet
anti everything diet
is good...
when you love something
sort of IN THE EXTREME
the way you can when you are...
let's say... a TEEN
it's good
to go on Holiday
and then come back and see.
if you feel the same way..
because..

in the end....
I wonder if these "affections"
are really mutual
after all...............

pondering
while day dreaming of crepes
and missing the Crepe Man of Lyon....

grocery store...

I used to love the grocery store..
My grocer plays romantic big band tunes...
so you can walk through the isles singing Sinatra...

But now all I find my self doing...
Is singing LOVE songs to Chavre Cheese
Farmers Cheese
Sharp Cheddar
and various Yogurts...

Yes Kefir got a whole chorus...
and my eyes welled up by the deli counter,
I had to leave the family to order the sausages
with out me...
the deli guy looked hurt..
We always had such a nice relationship before...

The cracker Isle broke me up,
and then..
I got hopeful
and rushed over to the "flour isle" and looked
for..
ALMOND flour..
after quite the search I found a puny little bag..
so tiny..
it MIGHT have made 1 cup...
and I was near bursting into tears when I saw the price..
$12.89
SHOCK!!!
I stumbled back..
almost knocking into someone...
rush forward...
could it be?
yes...
there it was..
$12.89
I grabbed the cute little girl that IS my daughter...
and we rushed to the nut isle...
looking for blanched almonds...
a tiny handful...
(ok my husbands BIG hand)
was $5
two containers MIGHT have made
1/2 a cup...

SERIOUSLY  !!!!!!!!!!!
I hope I win Elana's BIG Giveaway!
and now I know...
I'll be having to order my almond flour ONline...
bummer..

so today..
the grocery store was NOT
the culinary delight it usually is..
it was sad and depressing.
because...
I am in love
desperately
in love
with really good food...
with excellent cheeses...
superbly fresh organic produce
(much of which is not on my list yet)
wonderful imported delicatessens
I love the way food tastes
the way the flavors burst in my mouth
the aroma of a dish
the art of cooking
and of preparing
and of displaying
I love texture and color...
to me..
FOOD is another Medium for with which I might create
and I feel
forlorn
....
but..
melons and greens were bought..
so ...
hopefully today
a green smoothie
will be made!

that might cheer me up...
:)

major REVELATION!!!!

LIGHT BULB!!!!!!!!
ever feel very very blond?
well, I am not blond..
but I just had a very blond moment...
how would I KNOW what one was?
I WAS blond as a kid...
I remember the feeling... the "aura"

anyway...
WAY off subject

REVELATION

I HAVE A VITAMIX!!!!!!
with the fancy dry BLADE!!!
oooo la la!

I can MAKE almond flour too!!!!!
I just need blanched almonds...
hmm now to find ... blanched almonds...
any thoughts?

The Vita Mix...

So I mentioned that My darling and much beloved
VITA MIX
was a bit under the weather...
right?

did that concern you?
most people who have ever heard of the
Vita Mix
think it WILL never stumble or get a little...
let's just say...
 under the weather..

But here's the deal with Vita Mix..
THEY plain old fashion
ROCK THE HOUSE!!!!!!

A machine is a machine..
made by man utlimately
it may have hiccups now and again..
it MAY need a little TLC
and that is why VITA MIX has what is known
as a WARRANTY!!!!!!
and they stick BY IT!

We called them up
after owning this machine some 3 years..
and they said to box it up and send it in..
and they fixed it,
and gave us a new container to boot!
I think they were concerned the thingy wasn't spinning right...
and it was upsetting the motor..
but they fixed the motor too!

So... there you have it..
NO other blender company I EVER worked with did that..
and can I just be honest with you..
NONE of them lasted 3 years...
I KILL blenders..
I do..
I blend...
I LOVE smoothies..
desperately...
and now that I am learning about GREEN for life
and the RAW FAMILY...
I think...
my life...
may NEVER be the same..
and JUST in time ;)

My Vita Mix was returned in PRISTINE condition :)
Vita Mix 5000 :)
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

I think I want to be one of those sales people ...
I really really do..
I LOVE Vita Mix..
and LOVE when they come to my local Costco...
I know the people who sell! ...
I think it's the BEST!
I've helped them sell why drinking their smoothies
right there at my local Costco...
I've even convinced neighbor's and friends to buy them...
really perhaps I OUGHT to get commission... hmm
anyway..
I didn't want ANYONE up all night worried about
my poor Vita MIX
it has been to Vita Mix "spa"
and has been returned  to me quite happy
and is back at home on my counter :)
with me..
and all my leafy greens...

;)  all is well in the Big Blue House!
just IN case you were worried !

RAW family! check this out!

So we've had our Vita Mix a LONG time now....
But THIS information is FABULOUS!!!!!!  I never knew this!  and frankly
it all makes SENSE.... It adds up with everything else I have been learning..
I am so excited about this information!  I hope you are too!
I think I will be changing the way I use my Vita Mix...
and ordering THIS book ASAP :)  what about YOU?

Why isn't she sharing MORE recipes ???

Ah my beloved readers...
I am back from my little mini break...
We have been on a bit of a break
for medical reasons...

France was simply GRAND for our health...
all that FRESH produce each and every day..
all that walking
The wonderful markets...

Coming BACK to suburbia
in America HIT us like a ton of bricks
and my health began to decline rapidly...
I am a believer that we must put IN good nutritious foods
to get good results...
the old addage
garbage IN garbage out..
but sometimes..
PERHAPS you have been there..
families hit a crisis point..
and you just go INTO survival...
and anything IN seems better than nothing..
and you are flying (or rather we were)
from appointment to appointment
from putting out one fire to another...
and suddenly american fast food entered...
and our health grew for bad...
to worse....

All along we were trying to use our
beloved VITA MIX...
but something was amiss with it..
it wasn't functioning to its full and proper capasity..
and even though the offer the MOST amazing warranty...
we kept putting off calling them..
to take care of it...
how could we let go of our ONE health help
for even a few days...
gasp...
what if it took LONGER???

and so...
finally
after much prayer..
we went to YET another doctor..
and I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease...
I won't make this site ALL about my disease ...
I promise...
THIS IS my site about food...
food, beloved, food...
ways to eat it, enjoy it,
new ways to explore it..
and things we are trying ! ;)
But I must share with you,
my beloved readers...
from ALL over the world that this disease
requires serious changes in ones lifestyle...
and so I have been researching...

I plan on bringing YOU
New sites
New exciting recipes
things REALLY out of the box...
that will be utterly focused on WHERE
OUR family is at...

and where IS our family...
well....
at a culinary cross roads my friends...

A whole NEW world is opening up to me..
and I want to share it with you..
My diet is VERY strict..
but..
often when things seem to narrow,
when our palate of colors seems to be smaller...
is often when we are forced to be the MOST creative...

so I hope you join me
on this WILD
FRESH
CLEAN
WHOLESOME
very ORGANIC
quite possibly RAW
and even ? GLUTEN FREE??
who knows WHERE this will go...
but with a BLOG as DELICIOUS as this one..
as PASSIONATE about flavor as this one
you have to know...
it will taste gooood
and be good for you...

cheese... french cheese... chavre to be exact

MISSING good cheese
is a terrible thing..
now here in the States we have
the glorious Cheddar..
yes, it can be.. or so I am told...
gotten in the UK
but it was next to impossible for me to find in France..
and we like it a whole lot..
but more than a nice white sharp cheddar...
more than baby mozzarella balls all dolled up in olive oil, garlic, fresh basil, roma tomato's &  freshly ground black pepper....
MORE than brie...
more, yes more than cambret...
and all of that...
shocking I realize...
But more than it all
is the lovely world of
Chavre
a gorgeous French goat cheese...
now I confess ours here in the States is good..
not NEARLY as amazing as the cheese man's
when I would walk to the market in Lyon every day to get a new little pat...
but ours IS good...
just..
well...
one OUGHT to be HONEST...
it isn't nearly AS good as ALL THAT...
all that back in France...
where they make it fresh every day or what ever...
so...
anyways...
I have had it plain...
just sort of smeared on crackers, or bread... warm french bread is the best..

I have had it rolled in cracked peppercorns and crushed garlic...
and all sorts of ways..
my favorite way to serve it
is what I call
Lovely Log...
(I will check to see if I have the recipe on here for you)
but basically it is smothered in
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
ooooodles of garlic (way way way more than your wildest dreams)
freshly cracked black pepper
tons of basil... chopped fresh (a variety, basil flowers too if in season!)
AND
ripe, rich, red tomato, chopped small and inviting you to feast...
along with finely chopped chives....
anyways.. thats about it..
it looks amazing..
it tastes amazing..
it IS amazing...
and you eat if on crackers or garlic bread crisps.... oooo ooo ooo

I also make a Volcano... that's another terrific recipe.. hmm
you eat it with tortilla chips! yummy

so
do you GET that I like... LOVE this cheese?
hmmm
Well..
this Friday night
my husbands company had their annual Company Christmas Party...
and there it was ... along with the standards... and some yummy exceptions..
there was your plain colby...\
there was a fun monteray pepper jack (love that spicy kick)
a plain chedder
a sharp chedder
a gouda
a swiss
a brie  (nice)
a blue
and Chavre rolled in something new...
dill and some other stuff...
so I carefully, gracefully slice a tiny bit off and smear it onto my cracker...
and take a nibble...
I chose a water cracker so my palate could just focus on the cheese...
I tasted dill... which I don't often like in that amount...
I tasted chives...
I tasted it then... spicey... spice-E wow!
BAM
what that was... I am not sure..
but I grabbed a plate and casually looked about and wacked off a hunk of THAT cheese...
snagged some crackers and went to sit and figure it out...

Claudia noticed...
she is a Blue girl...
she never heard of Chavre...
she grabbed some for herself...
she went back and grabbed some more...
then I did..

it was ....
delicious...
simply... and unexpectadly delcious

On a mission...
I must create a recipe to match
to equal
or surpass
THAT...
wow....

anyways...
just HAD to share :)

wow .... YES I said WOW

so it's been a half a year... and a lot has happened... in my culinary world... a WHOLE lot...
a WHOLE lot more whole foods...
a WHOLE lot of adjusting to cooking in the US once again...

Todays recipe.... let me fIRST apologize for no photo...
It's a photo thing...
and it's a... already ate it up thing...

Todays recipe NEEDS a nam... so for now.. it's WOW...
suggestions welcomed

1 can Eden Aduki beans drained
1 bunch green onions rinsed well and chopped fine
1 bunch flat leafed parsley washed rinsed well and chopped fine
1/2 bunch (a nice handful) of Cilantro washed and rinsed well and chopped fine
a bit of fresh mint chopped fine
(I have a nice curved chopping board and put all my herbs in this chopping them together...)
Tumeric
Cumin
Paprika ( I prefer Hot... but because of the little children in my home having STRONG objections... plain)
4 cloves garlic pressed
Ginger (fresh if you have it... but I didn't so I used ground)
Sea Salt (or Kosher !)
Freshly Ground Pepper
2 cups Long grained Rice
Olive Oil
5 cups Water... (I like cold filtered)
Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage ( you can substitute this for another if you don't DO pork, we like the flavor of the SAGE)

Brown the SAGE Sausage and REALLY cook it good, let it sit out on paper towel to absorb the fat when done and set aside...
Do all your chopping!  set aside...

Rice.. Rince your rice under cold water till clear.. Shake it to be certain... this is important... Next shake it to get some of the excess water OUT.... Now in a nice sized pan that has a fitting lid, add enough olive Oil to cover the bottom... heat it up till hot and then add your rice... stir stir stir... keep this up you want to crisp it up a bit... Add the green onions...They will turn a brilliant green.... Stir stir stir...

Add the Beans... Stir Stir Stir.. Do NOT have your flame up too high... but not to low.. a nice med-med/high... add your garlic and ginger... stir stir stir.. it should smell AMAZING ... add some Tumeric, not too much, but don't be stingy... just try it out...

HOW MUCH... I don't know... It was my first time.. I just .... sprinkled... till it was a pretty color...
Add some cumin too... It won't taste Mexican I promise... It will taste so different I promise!  Keep stirring this up as you are adding in the seasonings.. add some paprika, and plenty of Sea Salt !  also Pepper, remember the list, add a little and stir, add a little more and stir...
when it smells simply WOW (and it will...) add the herbs, and stir, add the meat and stir... right about now the GREEN from the herbs will almost glow with the tumeric... and you'll wonder if I am NUTZO... but I am not :)

Add 5 cups Water... (you could add broth.. I didn't.. and it tasted amazing.. I bet broth would taste even better, but remember if you use a broth with lots of salt, don't add as much during the seasoning phase)
Bring to a boil... Reduce to simmer and cover...
Cook like you would Rice.. but remember you don't want it dry... I think it took about 20 minutes. I left a bit of moisture in.. I just wanted the rice DONE.. and I stirred it all up before I presented it to the family...

The were scared... but they tried it..
and everyone said...
WOW...
they ate a ton
and all asked for the left overs for lunch...
there is NO more for me to show you...
Bon Appetite :)

The greatest Beer Garden in the World???

Our little Family Adventure has expanded into the Land of Bavaria, Deutschland! Last weekend over the Holiday, we drove through Switzerland on on into Munich! For a grand time visiting Family, and feasting on different cuisine all together... The only request my husband made was to Visit the FAMED Hoffbrau Haus!

With Beer served by the Liter you can imagine the lively atmosphere! The band was wonderful and with the rain just pouring outside, we poured inside, and it was well.... HOT, we were sweating and the air was stifling! Ever the friendly Germans, when you look for a spot, you just find one and sit, don't worry if you sit with strangers, after Prosting (like an American Cheers)your beer once or twice they won't be a stranger for long!

The Liter beers were a big hit, and the Band played on and on, the kids swayed and lifted their smaller pints of "soda" to the music, singing and cheering like they were drunken little hobbits!

Truly we have entered the Shire
hmmmm I wonder what to order, it is all so Deutsch, and sounds so delicious! The prices look terrific too... This is NOT LYON.... hmmm affordable food in Europe??? How much food will we get? I am hungry!

The sauerkraut was served as a starter, and truth be told. I must be the worst German... I generally do NOT like sauerkraut. I always always try it, as I feel I ought to like it, I know it is very healthy for you, and good for digestion. So I tried, and surprise, surprise, I loved the Haufbrau Haus' Sauerkraut! It was the BEST! How can I get this at HOME??? I want that recipe book I saw in the gift shop... hmmm

Here is my delightful meal! Roast pork and bread dumplings with an amazing gravy. There is a tremendous amount of food here. This meat is tender, and well seasoned, it is simply delicious! I wonder if the recipe is in the book....

Here is what my mother would call boulettan.... it is like a mini hamburger, but really more like a mini meatloaf... these were amazing... The potatoes are MOIST, with onion, and seasoning, and ooooo la la, that with the gravy ... wow... We really could have bought just ONE plate for our two hungry boys... as neither one could finish their plate! YES they both loved it! Don't worry NO FOOD WAS wasted.... My hungry Hungry husband was with us :)

My daughter ordered the goulash, and while this was very good, this Bavarian specialty, was sweeter than she likes, and had no spice what so ever. She was NOT excited... and so while tasty, and well done, I do not think it would be ordered again. Yes those are the famed bread dumplings, and YES she did enjoy those :)
The children were also indulged by their very Bavarian Uncle with a slew of wonderful Bavarian Pretzels :) There are lady's all dressed up in the famed Bavarian dress, and gentleman dressed in laderhosen too. The ladies carry around them a rope with a box attached (think the war cigarette girls) and in it are pretzel, and Bavarian heart cookies! These gals walk around the restaurant and you can flag the Madchen down and purchase one!
this place is definitely worth coming to! There is always song and merriment, great food, excellent actually, super beer, a good time guaranteed! You may come and MAKE some friends! Don't be surprised to see people singing, or dancing, even upon the tables!
Haufbrau Haus IS a place NOT to be missed, a place to make memories, and to really enjoy!
So thankful to have been able to come, and absolutely DELICIOUS, I need to get that cookbook!

Business dinners can be a delight in France! Really :)

First and foremost we chose an excellent restaurant in the heart of Vieux Lyon.
The Chef is fantastic, and the staff is notably some of the friendliest, and most well trained in the art of serving... not only in serving, but in serving Anglophones...
they really make every attempt to work with you, and not make you feel foolish.
Which, LETS face it, is important...
as if you make me feel foolish, I don't care how good your food is, I won't come back...
it's not good business... Well These Folks KNOW good business...
From the Excellent Service, Professional layout, warm hospitality, and superb kitchen, we KNEW we could take my husbands co-workers here, and they would enjoy
an Excellent French meal... above is a bottle of their house wine, we also had a bottle of Cave St. Charles which was Superb!
A view of the painted ceiling! Isn't it lovely.. We ate indoors as the night was rainy and cool.

One fantastic thing about the French
is they respect the appetite
even that of a child.
The child's meal is brought out with the appetizer
which is perfect for a couple reasons
a) it is difficult for children to wait through the many courses of the French dinner
b) children are hungry NOW and can get ... emotional... ruining the dining experience for others
c) children can tend to eat at a slow pace and they will not feel rushed in any way!
Bon Appetite les enfant!
Escargot!
it was delicious!
I am sorry I forgot to get a photo of the "Crazy Salad"
as they call it...
because ... I have had it before, and
well, was hungry and just started eating,
and then realized....
I forgot about YOU..
sorry...
This is my lovely steak and creme potato

this is my husbands steak
it is a different cut
and was cooked differently too,
he loved it!
one gentleman's fish and potato

a different fish and green beans

beautiful ambiance

chatting after the meal
plenty of chatting,
and even photo opportunities while we "digest"
before the next course...
Oh, how he is entertaining us all with his stories!
I must say the way the French lay out their meals really makes you feel at HOME in the restaurant... Not so rushed, not at all! The waiters and waitresses in the US really do make you feel rushed... "hurry up someone else wants your table"....
This is NOT the feeling here, Our waitstaff joined in many of the dialogs,
laughing and really making merry with us
teaching us French while we helped them with their English!
A wonderful dining experience
oh NO !
I think politics are being discussed.....

this is the Chef
